Summary
Low temperature increases the viscosity of water and thus contributes to suppression of metabolism. Hence it was thought that metabolism can be suppressed by increasing the number of hydrogen-bonded water molecules, since viscosity depends on the energy of hydrogen bonding. After dissolving xenon gas into intracellular water, the effect of suppression on plant cells was investigated.
