Summary
The uredospores of six strains of Tranzschelia pruni-spinosae were stored in liquid nitrogen vapour (-185 deg C) to assay the pathogen's viability and virulence over time. The tested storage system proved very effective in preserving spore survival and virulence. As compared to spores stored at 20 and 10 deg C, which lost their viability after 28 and 163 days, respectively, those stored at -185 deg C retained their viability.
