Structured packings in air separation plants.

Author(s) : HUG A.

Summary

Air separation columns are designed with high efficient structured packings to minimize their height. Structured packings with high mass transfer efficiency are essential, although there will be a maximum packing surface area that can be economically employed. Other structures are required if higher efficiency is to be achieved. The design of the other internals also influences packing performance. Packing and internals can now be designed to allow horizontal transportation of the packed column to the erection site.
