Summary

USING CLEARLY DEFINED STATIC FIELDS OF ICE SUPERSATURATION AND TEMPERATURE IN A NEW WEDGE-SHAPED ICE THERMAL DIFFUSION CHAMBER, THE PROCESS OF ICE CRYSTAL GROWTH HABIT DEVELOPMENT WAS STUDIED. FOR DATA ANALYSIS, THE RATIO BETWEEN THE MAXIMUM DIMENSION OF BASAL PLANE AND THAT OF PRISM PLANE WAS INTRODUCED. IT WAS FOUND THAT AT ICE SUPERSATURATIONS ABOVE ABOUT 6%, THE HABIT WAS PRIMARILY TEMPERATURE-DEPENDENT FOR BOTH PRISMS AND PLATES. WHEREAS, BELOW THE VALUE AND 263 K (-10 DEG C), IT WAS VIRTUALLY INDEPENDENT OF TEMPERATURE.
