STUDY OF THE INTERMITTENT CHARCOAL-METHANOL CYCLE FOR THE REALISATION OF A SOLAR POWERED ICE-MAKER.

ETUDE DU CYCLE INTERMITTENT CHARBON ACTIF-METHANOL EN VUE DE LA REALISATION D'UNE MACHINE A FABRIQUER DE LA GLACE FONCTIONNANT A L'ENERGIE SOLAIRE.

Author(s) : DELGADO R.

Summary

REASONS FOR SELECTING A CHARCOAL-METHANOL CYCLE ARE PRESENTED AND THE CALCULATED THERMAL PERFORMANCE IS GIVEN IN TERMS OF VARIOUS TEMPERATURES (EVAPORATING, HEAT SINK AND HEAT SOURCE). THE RESULTS OF MEASUREMENTS ARE SHOWN GRAPHICALLY ALONG WITH HEAT BALANCES AND A COMPARISON BETWEEN EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL VALUES. THIS CYCLE IS VERY SUITED TO A SOLAR POWERED ICE-MAKER USING FLAT PLATE SELECTIVE SURFACE COLLECTORS SINCE IT PROVIDES COOLING TEMPERATURES OF 253 TO 263 K (-20 TO -10 DEG C), REGENERATING TEMPERATURES OF 383 K (110 DEG C) AND A THERMODYNAMIC COP OF 0. 4. AN OVERALL COP OF 0.15 COULD PRODUCE 25 KG OF ICE PER DAY USING A 4 M2 SOLAR COLLECTOR.
