Summary

Plate heat exchangers (PHE) have become popular in chemical, power, food and refrigeration industries due to the efficient heat transfer performance, extremely compact design and flexibility of extend or modify to suit changed duty. In present work, discussed the conception of plate heat exchanger and applied in vacuum evaporator for produce fresh water. Especially focus on the evaporating and condensing performance for product fresh water. In the system compose of two stage evaporator and the vapor from the first stage evaporator employed as heat source to provide hot stream for next stage of evaporator. Meanwhile the vapor will be condensed by the other fluid. In this way much of heat energy can be used sufficiently. Moreover, preheated cooling water after finished its duty in condenser feed to evaporated. Therefore, due to the evaporation complete at higher temperatures level consequently big amount of thermal energy can saved. The purpose of this study is to investigate thermal performance of fresh water generator system which applied plate heat exchanger. The experiments carried out heat transfer between cold and hot fluid stream at different flow rate and supply temperature conditions.
