Modelling of a plate-type water heat exchanger.

Author(s) : APREA C., RENNO C.

Summary

The principal aim of this paper is the modelling of a plate-type water heat exchanger used in an experimental plant working both as refrigeration system and heat pump. The model of this component, very adopted in the refrigeration and air-conditioning plants, is fundamental to identify opportune refrigeration capacity control laws able to obtain energy savings. The study of the transient response is generally complex because the heat exchanger mathematical model is described by means of non linear partial differential equations. So, in this paper the plate-type water heat exchanger is schematized as a black box. This modelling makes it possible to represent the plate-type water heat exchanger by means of a transfer function whose constants have been experimentally determined applying step inputs varying the compressor speed, in particular, the heat exchanger working has been simulated by means of first and second order functions. The transfer function determination of a plate type heat exchanger is important to optimize in terms of energy the compression plants that use this type of heat exchanger.
