Summary
MATURE UNFERTILIZED OOCYTES COLLECTED FROM SUPEROVULATED MICE WERE FROZEN AND STORED AT 77 K (-196 DEG C) USING GLYCEROL AS CRYOPROTECTANT. THE CRYOPRESERVATION PROTOCOL USED WAS DESIGNED AFTER STUDYING PHOTOMICROGRAPHS OF CELL VOLUME CHANGES TAKEN AT 310 K (37 DEG C) DURING ADDITION AND REMOVAL OF CRYOPROTECTIVE ADDITIVE. NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE WAS FOUND BETWEEN THE FERTILIZATION RATES OF FROZEN OR UNFROZEN OOCYTES AFTER EQUILIBRATION WITH GLYCEROL.
