Supercooling of water in commercial-sized evaporator tubes with internal fins.

La surfusion de l'eau dans des tubes d'évaporateur de dimensions commerciales avec ailettes intérieures.

Summary

A study was done of the new technology capable of generating flows of supercooled water. An experimental study was carried out in order to check if the phenomenon of supercooling could be inhibited by the presence of fins inside tubes having an internal diameter of 15.7mm. During tests, the Reynolds number of the water flow varied from 3,400 to 29,900, with an inlet temperature of between 0.2 and 6.1 deg C. Even with an outlet water temperature of -3 deg C, the presence of internal fins causes no inhibition of the supercooling phenomenon and helps increase heat flow.
