System performance of some long term R502 replacements.

Summary

A series of tests has been completed comparing the system performance of four long term replacements HP62, AZ50, Klea 60 and Klea 61 as potential alternatives for the CFC-containing low temperature R502. The tests were carried out in a well-instrumented alternative refrigerants test facility. Measurements were conducted at two different condensing temperatures: 54.4 and 43.3 deg C. The refrigerant evaporating temperature was varied over a range of -30 to -15 deg C. Test data were used to compare important system performance characteristics with R502 including relative evaporator capacity, relative cooling COP, and compressor discharge temperature. The effect of additional refrigerant liquid subcooling on the evaporator capacity and COP was also evaluated.
