Summary
Waste heat from cold water units can be dissipated directly to the ambient air by means of air capacitors. In larger plants for making cold water the technical complexity becomes rather great for this process. That is why a cooling water circuit serves to absorb the heat of condensation. Cooling towers are employed to dissipate the heat from the cooling water circuit to the ambient air. Modern cooling towers can provide marginal differences between cooling water temperature and cooling limit temperature. Using suitable hydraulic switches and controlled operation the cooling and cold water circuits can be connected in such a way that the operation of refrigerators can be omitted under suitable ambient conditions. The usage duration of this operating mode depends on the required operative temperatures, specific climate data of the location, and the type of the cooling towers used. The analysis of the operating data of systems with different refrigerating capacities and models as well as the calculation of the various power and water consumptions, depending on typical climatic data, lead to recommendations for economical operations and system concepts.
