Summary
THE MASS OF A BUILDING AND THE HEAT EXCHANGE SURFACE PROVIDED BY ITS INTERNAL STRUCTURAL FACES CAN BE USED TO PROVIDE COMFORT CONDITIONS. AIR IS PASSED THROUGH THE HOLLOW CONCRETE BEAMS OF FLOORS AND CEILINGS BEFORE BEING DISCHARGED INTO THE ROOMS. SUMMER COOLING IS BY NIGHT AIR, AND WINTER BASELOAD HEATING BY USING OFF-PEAK ELECTRICITY. A PROPORTION OF THE ROOM SUPPLY AIR CAN BE BYPASSED BACK TO THE BEAM DUCTS, FOR BETTER CONTROL. THE AIR SUPPLY/EXTRACT UNIT SHOULD HAVE GOOD HEAT RECOVERY FOR MAXIMUM ECONOMY. THE SYSTEM CAN BE BOOSTED BY GROUND STORAGE, USING AN AIR/WATER HEAT PUMP. A.R.T.
