Summary
The pulse-tube refrigerator is suitable for cooling high-temperature superconductors and other electronic devices because it gives rise to little vibration and interference at the cold head because of the absence of moving parts at low temperatures. These applications usually require a few watts of cooling power at 80 K and exhibit high reliability and low cost. A pulse tube refrigerator driven by a commercial air conditioning compressor may satisfy this requirement. The authors report a coaxial pulse tube refrigerator which is more convenient to use. A minimum temperature of 38.4 K and more than 6 watts of cooling power at 77 K have been achieved with about 600 watts of compressor power input.
