Summary
Instead of unsuitable polyglycolic oils, ester oils are recommended, as they simplify the procedure of switching to the new refrigerant. Ester-based oils are biodegradable, but highly hygroscopic and expensive. The endurance and service-life tests performed with them in FRIGERA semihermetic compressors, gave satisfactory results, but the volumetric efficiency and refrigerating capacity is lower at evaporating temperatures of -20 deg C or below.
