TEWI theoretical comparison between direct-expansion refrigeration and indirect refrigeration in retail applications.

Summary

The following systems were theoretically investigated under different operating conditions: direct expansion with R407C, indirect refrigeration with 30% ethylene glycol in water as secondary refrigerant and ammonia and R22 as primary refrigerants. TEWI values for the indirect systems were considerably higher than those for R407C (more than 37%), whereas ammonia behaved slightly better than R22. The results concerning the energy efficiency agree with the TEWI values, in the sense that the lower the TEWI is, the lower the energy consumption is.
