Detection limits in the low ppm to ppb ranges are now becoming routine and recent developments using multi-dimensional gas chromatography with a pulsed ionization detector have made this possible. The author presents the pulsed discharge ionization detector and its use in a typical gas production line and a typical gas cylinder filling line.
