THE STATUTE OF UNEP IS PRESENTED AND THE DIFFERENT FORESEEN ACTIONS. IN A DETAILED OVERVIEW THE EXPECTED ALTERNATIVE REFRIGERANTS ARE MENTIONED AND EVALUATED. THE SITUATION IN THE DIFFERENT BRANCHES OF THE REFRIGERATION INDUSTRY -FROM MANUFACTURER TO CONSUMER -IS DISCUSSED. MENTIONED ARE: HOUSEHOLD REFRIGERATION, COMMERCIAL AND TRANSPORT REFRIGERATION, INDUSTRIAL REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING AND AUTOMOTIVE AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEMS. AN IMPORTANT REDUCTION OF THE EMISSION OF CFCS IS POSSIBLE AT SHORT NOTICE. THE ALTERNATIVE REFRIGERANTS WILL BECOME AVAILABLE. THE AVAILABILITY OF R134A IS STILL UNCLEAR. THE POSITION OF R22 IS MENTIONED. THE GLOBAL WARMING PROBLEM WILL HAVE AN INCREASING IMPACT ON THE CFC PHASEOUT ACTIVITIES.
