THE CONTROL OF SUPERFICIAL SCALD OF BRAMLEY'S SEEDLING APPLES BY THE REMOVAL OF ETHYLENE FROM THE STORAGE ATMOSPHERE.

Author(s) : DOVER C. J.

Summary

SCALD IS CONTROLLED IN BRAMLEY'S SEEDLING APPLES WITH ANTIOXIDANTS. THE AUTHOR INVESTIGATED OTHER MEANS BY REDUCING THE ETHYLENE LEVEL BY CATALYTIC WASHING. THE APPLES WERE STORED WITHOUT SCALD OVER 280 DAYS IN A 0.5 T ROOM AND 320 DAYS IN A 20 T ROOM, WHEREAS IN A 0.5 T CONTROL ROOM SCALD OCCURRED AFTER 200 DAYS. APPLE FIRMNESS WAS HIGHER WITH CATALYTIC WASHING.
