Summary

IN THE PAPER, THE EXACT ANALYTICAL EXPRESSIONS ARE USED TO CONSTRUCT THE TEMPERATURE-TIME-TRANSFORMATION AND THE CONTINUOUS COOLING TRANSFORMATION CURVES, FROM WHICH THE CRITICAL COOLING RATES REQUIRED FOR VITRIFICATION OF CRYOPROTECTIVE SOLUTIONS CAN THEN BE PREDICTED DIRECTLY. IT IS FOUND THAT 1,2-PROPANEDIOL HAS A HIGHER GLASS-FORMING TENDENCY THAN ETHYLENE GLYCOL AND GLYCEROL. THE CRITICAL COOLING RATE CAN BE REDUCED WHEN 1,2-PROPANEDIOL ISPARTIALLY REPLACED BY 1,2-BUTANEDIOL.
