A TABLE GIVES, BY KINDS OF FROZEN FOODS, THE TONNAGES CONSUMED IN 1982 IN FINLAND, AMOUNTING ON THE WHOLE TO 47,286.2 T, OF WHICH 27,832.4 T FROM RETAILERS (59%) AND 19,453.8 T IN INSTITUTIONS, IE 9.7 KG PER CAPITA. WHILE CONSUMPTION DOUBLED BETWEEN 1970 AND 1980,THIS INCREASE REDUCED AT THE MIDDLE OF THE PRESENT DECADE, DUE TO THE ECONOMIC CRISIS, MAINLY AS FOR PROCESSED FOODS. HOUSEHOLDS CONSUME A LARGE AMOUNT OF FROZEN VEGETABLES, FISH AND POULTRY ; INSTITUTIONS CONSUME MORE PREPARED FOODS. COMPARED TO SEVERAL OTHER COUNTRIES, THESE ARE COMPETED WITH BY FOODS CHILLED AT 277-281 K (4-8 DEG C). THE CONSUMPTION OF FROZEN BALTIC HERRING IS PARTICULARLY HIGH (2 MILLION KG/YEAR). G.G.
