BON CHRETIEN PEARS HAVE A RELATIVELY SHORT STORAGE LIFE OF ABOUT 12 WEEKS. RIPENING DURING STORAGE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND WHEN PREMATURE RIPENING IS ALSO PREVALENT, THE STORAGE PERIOD IS FURTHER REDUCED. THE FRESH-FRUIT TRADE AND THE CANNING INDUSTRY ARE ALSO DETRIMENTALLY AFFECTED BY THESE PROBLEMS.
