Summary

In 1993, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended that supermarkets lower the core temperature of certain refrigerated foods from 7 to 5 deg C. There could be up to a 3% increase in annual electric energy use due to the FDA's recommendations. Manufacturers of refrigerated display cases are incorporating the temperature reduction requirements into designs for new products.
