Summary

THE COURSE OF ELECTRIC RESISTANCE IN COX'S ORANGE APPLES WAS FOLLOWED FROM HARVEST UNTIL INTERNAL BROWNING OF THE WHOLE EXPERIMENTAL LOT. THE APPLES WERE STORED AT 276.5 K (3.5 DEG C) AND AT 90% RH. THE ELECTRIC RESISTANCE INCREASED DURING THE INITIAL PERIOD OF STORAGE AND A CLIMAX OCCURRED BEFORE INTERNAL BROWNING WAS OBSERVED. THE CHANGE FROM INCREASE TO DECREASE IN THE COURSE OF ELECTRIC RESISTANCE MIGHT SERVE AS AN EARLY INDICATOR OF INTERNAL BROWNING. THESE FINDINGS MUST BE CONFIRMED FOR THE VARIETY AND FOR OTHER VARIETIES.
