Summary

The new European regulation regarding fluorinated greenhouse gases: 517/2014 dated April 2014, 16th is now published in the Official journal of the European Union (May 20th, 2014). It replaces regulation 842/2006, known as the F-Gas regulation. The ambition of the 2006 regulation was to limit the emissions of fluorinated greenhouse gases. The 2014 version aims at decreasing the availability and the use of gases with a high global warming potential (GWP>2500). To do so, it gradually reduces the quantities of refrigerants with a high global warming potential placed on the market (phase down) and sets deadlines for the placing on the market of new equipment which rely on these gases. The general terms of the 2006 regulation, regarding qualification of personnel and companies are maintained and the scope of the regulation is extended to temperature controlled trucks > 3,5 t.
