Food innovations, such as canning, freezing and pasteurization, have helped to dramatically improve the quality of life for many. Innovation continues with the application of irradiation to foods, with the development of biotechnology, and with ingredients that improve the nutrient profile of the foods. This monograph in honour of FAO's 50th anniversary has been sponsored by CIAA and the Grocery Manufacturers of America (GMA).
