Summary

The market of refrigerated ready-to-eat meals has expanded widely since the eighties, especially in France. This new market is increasing greatly (turnover and produced volumes multiplied by 3 in 7 years). Refrigerated ready-to-eat meals combine the essential qualities expected by the consumer: convenience, freshness and taste. Retailers (self-service and counter service) are the main customers of these products. The catering sector is also interested in these products, in particular with the development of central kitchens or of proximity commercial catering (bars, "brasseries").
