YEAR-BY-YEAR STATISTICS ARE GIVEN ON POULTRY PRODUCTION BY TYPE (GEESE, DUCKS, CHICKENS, TURKEYS, AND BROILERS) AND BY REGION IN THE GDR. FIGURES ARE GIVEN ASWELL ON OVERALL MEAT CONSUMPTION ; IT HAS MORE THAN DOUBLED SINCE 1955, AMOUNTING TO 100.2 KG PER PERSON IN 1988. PORK CONTINUED TO MAKE UP ABOUT TWO THIRDS OF THIS. POULTRY CONSUMPTION, THOUGH, HARDLY ROSE FROM 1985, WHEN IT ACTUALLY OVERTOOK THAT OF THE FRG, TO 1988, WHEN IT WAS BEHIND, 10.4 TO 11.3 KG PER PERSON. THESE 2 FIGURES WERE AMONG THE LOWEST IN THE DEVELOPED WORLD. M. C.
