THE GENESIS OF GOUY-STODOLA RELATION AND THE IDEAL REVERSED CYCLE.

Author(s) : MIECZYNSKI M.

Summary

REFERRING TO THE TRADITIONAL EXPRESSION OF THE CLAUSIUS LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS, THE AUTHOR DRAWSATTENTION TO THE CONCEPT OF MAXIMUM WORK, WHICH IS THE BASIS OF THE EXERGY METHOD, THE SAME AS THE GOUY-STODOLA RELATION WHICH DETERMINES THE LOSS OF WORK OF A CYCLE, AND THE INCREASE IN WORK OF A REVERSED CYCLE, DUE TO IRREVERSIBILITIES. THE INCREASE IN WORK OF THE REVERSED CYCLE REQUIRES THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUITABLE REVERSIBLE CYCLES. A COMPARISON OF THE CARNOT, RANKINE AND LINDE REVERSED CYCLES AND OF THEIR PERFORMANCES IS THUS PRESENTED.
