LE MARCHE DES ABATS.

Summary

THE FRENCH MARKET FOR OFFALS IS DECREASING: THE REASONS ARE DIFFICULT OUTLETS, STRONG INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION AND DECREASING HOME CONSUMPTION. MORE THAN HALF OF THE VOLUMES USED ARE IMPORTED, MAINLY IN THE FROZEN STATE. AMERICAN SUPPLIERS ARE OPENING NEW MARKETS. AS REGARDS BUYERS, PROCESSING INDUSTRIES ACCOUNT FOR 20% OF THE MARKET, WITH 15% FOR BUTCHERS AND TRIPE DEALERS. AFTER A CERTAIN FALL OFF, THE PET FOOD INDUSTRY SHOULD PICK UP AGAIN. INSTITUTIONAL AND COMPANY CATERING REMAIN GOOD CUSTOMERS. MORE SUITABLE PACKAGING SHOULD PROMOTE THE SALES IN FAST FOODS CATERING, SUPERMARKETS AND HOME SERVICE. J.L.
