THE PRODUCTION OF PROCESSED FISHERY PRODUCTS IN JAPAN IS DESCRIBED. MAJOR COMMODITIES OF PROCESSED FISHERY PRODUCTS ARE DRIED PRODUCTS, BOILED-DRIED PRODUCTS, SALTED-DRIED PRODUCTS, SALTED PRODUCTS, FISH PASTE PRODUCTS, FROZEN PRODUCTS, CANNED FOODS, FEED AND FERTILIZER, FISH OIL ETC. IN THESE ITEMS, THE PRODUCTION OF FROZEN PRODUCTS IS LARGER THAN THAT OF OTHER PRODUCTS. THE FROZEN FISHERY PRODUCTS ARE TUNA, MARLIN, SKIP JACK, SALMON, SARDINE, MACKEREL, FLAT FISH, CUTTLE FISH, JACK MACKEREL, KNEADED FISH MEAL (SURIMI) ETC. THE NUMBER OF ICE-MAKING, COLD STORAGE AND REFRIGERATING PLANT IN JAPAN IN 1982 WERE 1,190, 3,870 AND 1,750 RESPECTIVELY. THE CAPACITY OF F CLASS, LOWER THAN 253 K (-20 DEG C), COLD STORAGE HAS CONSIDERABLY INCREASED RECENTLY.
