The role of technology in the protection of global environment: a case study of the implementation of the Montreal Protocol.

Author(s) : SHENG S. L.

Summary

The author reminded participants that technical progress to date had been accompanied by adverse effects on the environment. The main problem was ozone depletion linked to the use of CFCs in refrigeration and air conditioning. The Montreal Protocol has made it possible to stabilize ozone depletion and its application worldwide should ensure normal ozone levels towards the middle of next century.
