The Sick Building Syndrome: a real problem ?
Le "Sick Building Syndrome" : un problème réel ?
Author(s) : BOCK W. de
Type of article: Article
Summary
A survey was carried out in the public offices of the main Belgium cities. 86 % of the persons questioned, who were working in offices fitted with an air-conditioning system, complained about their working environment (temperature, dust, noise, lighting) and about their health (tiredness, dry throat, headache, lack of energy, ocular and respiratory troubles, influenza symptoms). According to the author, it is necessary to consider these subjective complaints with reservation, without denying the Sick Building Syndrome. To remedy it, he proposes a series of practical solutions (building decontamination, regular air changes, duct cleaning, bacteria control, filter improvement, etc.).
