The solubility of refrigerants in synthetic lubricants and the effect on viscosity.

Author(s) : YOST R. W., JARRELL C. L.

Summary

The paper reports the results of work on the solubility of hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants in synthetic polyol ester lubricants, and the effect of this solubility on viscosity of the resulting mixtures. Also lubricants with different miscibilities in R134a are compared by solubility and viscosity. These data were collected using a new type of viscometer which allows the simultaneous measurement of temperature, pressure, and viscosity at a known composition of refrigerant and lubricant. The experimental system is described.
