Thermal regulating system in temperature-controlled containers.
Système de régulation thermique dans les conteneurs à température contrôlée.
Author(s) : KACIMI A., LABRANQUE G.
Summary
Temperature-controlled containers are used for the transport of temperature-sensitive health products. The dynamic container (active system), equipped with a refrigerating unit, regulates the temperature, but requires an electrical energy source or large batteries during transport. The static (passive) system, in the form of an insulated container refrigerated by a phase change material, is an energy independent solution but it does not control the temperature. The thermal regulating system combines the advantages of static and dynamic systems. It is an energy independent solution that detects the temperature of the payload and adjusts the absorption of heat accordingly, by opening or closing a thermal conduit. The container is made of vacuum insulation panels combined with polyurethane and a rigid outer wall. The cold source (eutectic gel) and the thermal regulating device are integrated into the lid. This study is a thermal qualification of this solution.
