Thermodynamic simulation and optimization of a double-effect absorption chiller.

Simulation thermodynamique et optimisation du fonctionnement des machines frigorifiques à absorption à double effet.

Summary

The aim of this work was the analysis, simulation and optimization of a double-effect (double absorber) ammonia-water absorption chiller. A mathematical model of the chiller based on the mass and energy balances and the second law is developed. For the simulation of the machine, input data corresponding to the number of degrees of freedom of the installation must be given. The effect on the COPof the evaporator and the intermediate boiler pressures, the temperature of the hot heat source and the splitting ratio of the poor solution in the tree-way valve is investigated and the optimal operating conditions searched. The COP has a maximum for each of the four variables. The search for the optimal operating conditions corresponding to the global maximum of the COP is performed by a numerical simulation of the experimental design method. To validate the obtained results an optimum search by the simplex method is performed.
