Topics towards development of advanced heat pump systems.

Author(s) : KOYAMA S.

Summary

In the recent three decades, researchers and engineers in air-conditioning and refrigeration industry have got to grip with global environmental problems such as the ozone layer depletion and the global warming because many kinds of refrigerants with non-zero ODP and high GWP had or have been widely used as working fluids. In this situation, my laboratory has been devoting to investigate the heat and mass transfer phenomena related to air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, as well as the development and improvement of innovative air-conditioning and refrigeration systems since early 80’s. This keynote paper is based on the past and current research activities of my laboratory in Kyushu University, Japan that comprise: (1) the condensation of zeotropic refrigerant mixture in a tube; (2) the condensation of pure refrigerant in mini-channels; (3) condensation enhancement by a finned surface, and (4) heat pump cycles using zeotropic refrigerant mixtures.
