Two phase pressure drop in microchannels.

Author(s) : NIÑO V., PAYNE W., HRNJAK P., et al.

Summary

Single-phase and two-phase adiabatic pressure drop results are presented for two rectangular port microchannel tubes. Mass fluxes from 50 to 300 kg/s.m2 were operated, with quality ranging from 0 to 1 for two-phase flow experiments. Three tube lengths were tested to determine entrance/exit pressure losses. R134a, R410A, nitrogen, air and water were used as primary fluids. Single-phase friction factor results are compared with equations for circular tubes. Two-phase pressure drop results indicate a change from a homogeneous to an annular flow character as mass flux and quality levels are increased.
