Universities study heat transfer characteristics of R22 and R502 alternatives.

Type of article: Article

Summary

Tests have been conducted to determine the heat transfer coefficients in evaporation and condensation for some proposed alternatives to R22 and R502. The R22 alternatives tested were R134a, the azeotrope R32-R125 (60-40), and two zeotropic blends, R32-R125-R134a (30-10-60), and R32-R134a (25-75). As alternatives for R502, were tested: the blend R125-R134a (50-50), the ternary blend R125-R143a-R134a (44-52-4), the blend R32-R125-R143a (10-45-45), and the blend R32-R125-R134a (20-40-40). Results are given. Tests are to be repeated with lubricant added. D.W.H.
