Use of natural refrigerants: a complete solution to the CFC/HCFC predicament.

Author(s) : LORENTZEN G.

Summary

The ideal cycle of a refrigerating system or heat pump is defined by the temperature limits of application. It is completely independent of the working fluid. The real cycle must approach the ideal cycle as much as possible, a task for which thermodynamic properties and refrigerant transfer are important. Natural substances like ammonia, propane and carbon dioxide are generally better at this than halogenated hydrocarbons. With simple safety measures, it is possible to use these 3 natural fluids in almost all conventional applications of refrigeration and heat pumps.
