Summary

This article describes developments in air curtain technology over the past few years. The principle of dynamic stabilization of an air curtain by another air curtain is explained. The overall performance of a refrigerated display cabinet depends on air flow pattern if the exchanger design is mastered. Development of suitable exchangers is thus required. The use of laser tomography, laser velocimetry and temperature metrology in order to map air curtains is explained. Studies of loss of vertical flow stability are mentioned along with certain results obtained using numerical simulation.
