Waste heat powered icemaker for isolated fishing villages.

Author(s) : ERICKSON D. C.

Summary

A new solution to the problem of obtaining ice in isolated fishing villages is now in operation at Kotzebue, Alaska. Low temperature jacket cooling water from a diesel engine is used to power a new absorption refrigeration cycle. By eliminating the electric compressor, the electricity required for making ice is reduced by 70%.
