Zeebrugge LNG terminal cogeneration project: results after one year of operation.

Author(s) : PAIRON J. L.

Summary

The TRACTEBEL group commissioned a cogeneration project, combined heat and power unit (CHP), on its LNG terminal at Zeebrugge (Belgium) in January 1997 and so it has been in service almost one year. the cogeneration project consists of a 40 MW gas turbine from which the "waste heat" in the exhaust gas is recovered in a direct-contact heat exchanger tower, called a heat recovery unit. The warm water (up to 50 deg C) generated in the heat exchanger is then used as heating medium for vaporising LNG in the submerged combustion type vaporisers.
