Effect of refrigerant charge on the performance of a room air-conditioning system.

Author(s) : KIKUCHI M., TAKAKU S., NAKAMURA H., et al.

Summary

To resolve the global warming by emission of the greenhouse gases such as CO2 and HFC, the reduction of these gases is strongly demanded. In the field of the air conditioning system, the reduction of refrigerant charge and the improvement of the seasonal system efficiency are important. But so far, the optimum refrigerant charge that depends on the driving conditions or driving ways has not been investigated sufficiently. In this study, the authors construct the high precision simulation model and confirm that it can predict the system performance with wide range operating conditions considering the seasonal driving. Then, using this model, the effect of the refrigerant charge on the system performance is investigated. As a result, they found out that there is an optimum refrigerant charge to maximize the COP and it depends on the driving pattern. Therefore, they clarified the minimum refrigerant charge that matches each driving conditions.
