These proceedings contain 27 papers presented at the eighth IIR Conference on phase change materials and slurries for refrigeration and air conditioning, held in Karlsruhe, Germany. They contain a preface on the state of the art, plenary presentations on crystallization and atmospheric ice formation, and papers providing overviews of phase-change materials (PCMs), numerous properties of ice slurry (including supercooling phenomena, generation and crystallization); fundamental properties of PCMs (heat transfer, storage, subcooling, analysis); ice slurries: storage, ultrasonic technology, industrial applications; PCMs in ceilings and panels and investigation of energy savings; various hydrates and their use in isothermal containers and vacuum insulation panels; formation, use and stability of phase-change emulsions. Session topics were on: overview of PCM applications around the world; fundamental properties of ice slurry; fundamental properties of PCMs; ice slurries; hydrates; PCMs in building materials; PCM and phase-change emulsions.
