A case study on the explosion energy of split air conditioning systems using HCFC-22 and CO2.

Author(s) : PETTERSEN J., TANG H. K.

Summary

The explosion (stored) energies of a baseline HCFC-22 system and a CO2 system are calculated and compared. The data are based on ductless split air conditioning systems of equal size and capacity. Results show that the explosion energies of the two systems are comparable at (initial) temperatures around 60 °C. At higher temperatures, the explosion energy of the HCFC-22 system becomes higher than that of the CO2 system, while the situation is reversed at lower temperatures.
