A heat pump driven by a rolling piston compressor: a study of the influence of the discharge valve when natural refrigerants are used in place of CFCs and HCFCs.

Author(s) : JIANG Z., REN T., FLEMING J. S.

Summary

The COP of heat pumps, which make use of a rolling piston compressor, is very sensitive to the behaviour of the compressor discharge valve. A new mathematical model of the discharge valve thermofluid behaviour is presented. The relation between pressure drop, mass flow, heat pump size, rotating speed, fluid properties, discharge temperature, etc., are discussed with regard to design technique. The model is likely to be useful in the calculation of flow resistance of any refrigerant through the discharge valve of a rolling piston compressor.
