THE MODEL CASE IS A STAGGERED COPPER TUBE COIL WITH CONTINUOUS FLAT ALUMINIUM FINS; TOTAL EVAPORATION OF R22 INSIDE THE TUBES IS ASSUMED. ALL DIMENSIONS AND OPERATING CONDITIONS ARE OPTIMIZED. SOME VALUABLE RESULTS ARE GIVEN FOR REFERENCE. A SYSTEMATIC APPROACH TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF OPTIMIZATION OF A COIL WITH AN EXTENDED SURFACE IS PROPOSED.
