Summary

This paper presents a methodology to determine the power consumption and the compressor rotation speed of the air conditioning system (A/C) for vehicles. A model has been implemented using TRNSYS, and it is structured in of three sub–models. The first one is a dynamic thermal model of a vehicle that calculates the cooling capacity needed to maintain the interior of the vehicle in thermal comfort. This model considers the effect of the solar radiation and the ambient temperature to estimate the heat load on the vehicle. The second sub-model is an air conditioner system model developed in IMST-ART, which calculates the performance of the A/C system under different working conditions and compressor speeds. The third sub-model integrates the data of the two previous sub-models in order to calculate the power consumption and the rotation speed of the compressor of the A/C system.
