A NEW MIXTURE FOR THE ABSORPTION HEAT PUMP: LITHIUM BROMIDE/ZINC BROMIDE/METHANOL.

Author(s) : IEDEMA P. D.

Summary

MIXTURES FOR THE ABSORPTION HEAT PUMP, WITH A LOW DILUTION AND EVAPORATION ENTHALPY RATIO, HAVE A BETTER THERMODYNAMIC (REVERSE) COP, BUT IRREVERSIBILITIES SHOULD BE ALLOWED FOR. THE LITHIUM BROMIDE/ZINC BROMIDE/METHANOL MIXTURE SEEMS TO BE THE MOST SUITABLE, DUE TO ITS LOW FREEZING POINT AND ITS LOW PRESSURE. THE AUTHOR CALCULATES THE COP OF THIS MIXTURE. THERE SEEMS TO BE AN OPTIMUM REGENERATOR TEMPERATURE FOR THE MAXIMUM COP. THE ABSORBER IS AN ESSENTIAL COMPONENT, BECAUSE OF THE RATHER HIGH VISCOSITY OF THE MIXTURE. THAT WITH A FILM FLOWING DOWN HORIZONTAL TUBES (MIXING OCCURRING ON THE (DIS)APPEARANCE OF DROPS) SEEMS TO BE THE MOST SUITABLE. WITH A MATHEMATICAL MODEL HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS WERE CALCULATED.
