A PRACTICAL RESPONSE TO THE CFCS ISSUE: THE GLOBAL WARMING FACTOR.

Summary
THE AUTHORS DRAW A DISTINCTION BETWEEN < DIRECT GLOBAL WARMING EFFECT >(FROM EMISSIONS OF CFCS) AND < INDIRECT > (USE OF POWER BY REFRIGERATING PLANTS THAT HAS BEEN GENERATED BY FOSSIL-FUEL-BURNING POWER STATIONS). THEY COMPARE THE RELATIVE IMPORTANCE OF THE 2 EFFECTS IN 2 HYPOTHETICAL SYSTEMS: A SMALL, HIGH-TEMPERATURE CLOSE-COUPLED SYSTEM AND A LOW-TEMPERATURE REMOTE SYSTEM USING LARGER COMPRESSORS. IN BOTH THEY FOUND THAT THE INDIRECT EFFECT WAS MUCH GREATER THAN THE DIRECT EFFECT. THE EXCEPTIONS WERE WHEN R12 (IN THE FIRST SYSTEM) AND R502 (IN THE SECOND) WERE USED, ALTHOUGH EVEN HERE THE INDIRECT EFFECT WAS STILL SOMEWHAT GREATER.
